As a Facilities Technician, you will help ensure the operational excellence of Google’s data centers, performing maintenance and repairs that support the seamless operation of our infrastructure.
Job Description
As a Data Center Facilities Technician I, you will monitor, inspect, and maintain physical facilities systems, including electrical distribution, HVAC, and control systems. Your responsibilities will include diagnosing issues, supporting senior technicians, and collaborating with contractors to ensure smooth operations. In this role, you’ll contribute to operational efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance while helping to maintain Google’s state-of-the-art data centers.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, and repair data center systems, including electrical and mechanical components.
- Provide daily support to senior technicians by reading blueprints, schematics, and sequences of operations.
- Manage the uptime and maintenance of UPS systems, generators, electrical distribution, and control and monitoring systems.
- Operate, monitor, and respond to abnormal conditions in data center facilities systems and equipment.
- Support the startup, commissioning, and integration of new electrical equipment into the facilities infrastructure.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a technical field.
- 2 years of electrical experience (e.g., electrical testing equipment or electrical distribution) in an industrial or commercial environment.
- Ability to handle material tasks such as lifting/moving up to 50 lbs of equipment and using OSHA standard safety equipment.
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays, and shift-based schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in maintenance of electrical distribution systems or a technical/construction environment.
- Experience working in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
- Knowledge of electrical systems used in data center environments (e.g., Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units).
- Experience using meters, devices, sensors, and standard hand tools for troubleshooting.
- Ability to communicate effectively with contractors performing maintenance or upgrade work.
