This full-time position provides the opportunity to work on state-of-the-art physical infrastructure that powers Google’s cutting-edge technology. As a key member of the Hardware Operations team, you will maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize data center hardware and infrastructure while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Job Description
As a Data Center Technician II, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain both hardware (such as servers and their components) and server software (such as Google’s Linux clusters). You’ll also work on more complex systems like networks, routers, switches, and networking protocols. This role requires hands-on technical skills and involves physical tasks such as moving and installing racks. Working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, you will help ensure the seamless operation of Google’s data centers.
Responsibilities
- Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues with equipment or infrastructure, following established data center procedures and applying appropriate resources to resolve them.
- Maintain data security and integrity by ensuring media handling complies with Google’s security standards.
- Disassemble and replace end-of-life equipment or perform maintenance tasks in a team setting.
- Perform repairs, fixes, and preventative maintenance on servers, machines, and infrastructure based on identified issues and defined solutions.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
- Experience performing component-level repairs on IT equipment.
- Ability to lift/move 50 lbs (23 kg) of equipment and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, climbing, and pushing/pulling.
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays, and shift-based schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of the online Google IT Support Professional Certificate program.
- 2 years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
- Experience working in data centers or network operations center environments.
- Ability to collaborate and partner with teams to overcome challenges.
- Adaptability to changes in a dynamic work environment.
