Job Description

As a Data Center Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining Google’s state-of-the-art data centers. You’ll be responsible for installing, configuring, testing, and troubleshooting hardware such as servers and their components. Additionally, you’ll handle more complex networking components, including routers, switches, and protocols. This position involves hands-on technical work and collaboration with cross-functional teams to maintain Google’s infrastructure integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across various projects or functions.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with equipment or infrastructure by following established data center procedures and troubleshooting processes.
  • Maintain security standards by tracking and handling media in compliance with Google’s data security protocols.
  • Disassemble and replace end-of-life equipment or perform routine maintenance as part of a team.
  • Repair, maintain, and perform preventative measures on equipment, servers, and infrastructure based on defined solutions and limited guidance.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
  • Experience performing component-level repairs on IT equipment.
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration.
  • Ability to lift/move 50 lbs (23 kg) of equipment and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, climbing, and pushing/pulling.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays, and shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of the online Google IT Support Professional Certificate program.
  • 2 years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
  • Experience in a data center or network operations center environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Adaptability to changes and the ability to manage challenges effectively.
